Tinubu, President Xi Jinping’s Special Envoy To Attend Mahama’s Inauguration

President of Nigeria and Chairman, Committee of Heads of State of the Economic Community of West African States, Bola Tinubu, will depart Lagos on Monday for Accra, the capital of Ghana, to attend the inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama taking place on Tuesday.

A statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Tinubu’s trip is at the invitation of the president-elect, who had visited the Nigerian leader earlier in December.

President Tinubu, as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, will join other African leaders at the ceremony.

He will be accompanied on the trip by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and other senior government officials.

Also, the Special Envoy of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Hao Mingjin, will attend the inauguration

A spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Guo Jiakun, said Mingjin, vice chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, will attend the inauguration.

Mahama was declared the winner of the presidential election by the Electoral Commission of Ghana on December 9, 2024.
