The Unionist Alliance party of Sudan has reported the arrest of Mohammed al-Faki Suliman, by the country’s military authorities in Khartoum.

al-Faki Suliman, a former member of the ruling Sovereign Council, and the deputy head of a government-run agency tasked with dismantling the legacy of former autocratic President Omar al-Bashir’s regime was detained on Sunday after his vehicle was stopped as he headed from his home to the party’s headquarters.

The Sudanese military junta that seized power in the country last year October 25 was accused to have also arrested two former members of the same agency, according to an official who spoke on condition of anonymity on Sunday.

The arrests considered a clear signal the military was all out against the agency known as The Committee to Dismantle the Regime of June 30, 1989, in reference to the Islamist-backed military coup that brought al-Bashir to power.

al-Faki Suliman and the other two arrested members of the Committee were said to have been taken to the Souba prison in Khartoum.

The continued take over by the military has continued to see protesters march in Khartoum, and other cities including Port Sudan and Wad Madani, who are demanding for establishment of a fully civilian government to lead the transition.

Protesters were again seen on Monday in Khartoum beating drums and carrying flags while marching through the streets but the Police were also seen using water cannon and tear gas to disperse some demonstrators in the city,

Police authorities have however called on protesters to assemble in public squares to avoid further clashes.

Meanwhile, the African Union -AU Chairman Moussa Faki Mahamat, have on Sunday met with the leader of the coup General Abdel-Fattah Burhan, in Khartoum as part of international efforts to find a way out of the crisis.

The AU Chairman has also met with the Sudanese Professionals Association, who have reiterated their demand for the removal of the military from power.

Sudan has been politically paralyzed and in turmoil since the coup that has forced prime minister Abdalla Hamdok Al-Kinani to resign after complaining of failure to reach a compromise between the generals and the pro-democracy movement.
