Motorists will face increased fuel costs from Wednesday, as announced by the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources.
Both grades of petrol will rise by 17 cents per litre, diesel will increase by between 54 and 55 cents per litre, and wholesale paraffin prices will go up by 48 cents per litre.
Department spokesperson, Robert Maake, attributes the rise to higher diesel prices driven by increased demand in Europe and America during the winter season.
According to Maake, the rand depreciated against the dollar during the period under review from 17.53 to 17.93, and the slate levy remains unchanged at 0 cents per litre in the price structures of petrol and diesel.
He also highlighted the adjustments approved by the minister as the annual margin adjustment of the net increase of 15.4 cents per litre on petrol and 8.88 cents on diesel and illuminating paraffin, in line with the regulatory accounting system guidelines.
