Libya Indicates Readiness to Work With African Union

Libya’s Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign and International Cooperation, Omar Al-Kati has disclosed the country looks forward to the African Union playing a more leading role in his country’s bid to return to normalcy and an intensified visits of leaders of African countries to Libya.

Al-Kati made this disclosure when he received the Foreign Minister of Congo, Jean-Claude Gakosso, who visited in Libya in the company of Muhammad Al-Hassan Al-Labbat, Director of the Office of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, added that he wished the visit would yield positive results that would see the return of the Executive Secretariat of the Community of Sahel and Saharan States to function from its headquarters in Tripoli.

He said Libya would be delighted to witness the move of the African Union office back to Tripoli instead of Tunisia at the earliest opportunity to facilitate communication between the Libyan state and the African Union Commission.

The Libyan undersecretary thanked the visiting delegation and praised the role of the African Union in general and the High-level Committee of the African Union on Libya, chaired by President Denis Sassou Nguesso, President of the Republic of the Congo.

On his own part, Mr. Jean-Claude said he would convey to President Denis Sassou Nguesso, Chairman of the High-Level Committee of the African Union on Libya, the concerns of the Libyan side, especially in the area of national reconciliation and assistance in conducting elections in cooperation with the African Union Commission.
