Death Toll In Uganda Landslide Rises To 28

The death toll from the landslide in Bulambuli District of Eastern Uganda has risen to 28, even as rescue efforts continue.

Police say that five more bodies have been retrieved from the mud, after the landslide triggered by heavy rains hit multiple villages in Buluganya Sub-County last week.

Uganda Police Spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke, said all the five victims were residents of Masugu village. Kituuma disclosed that search efforts were continuing, with joint teams from security, local community, Office of the Prime Minister and the Red Cross working tirelessly to locate more bodies.

According to the Red Cross, the disaster has displaced numerous families and caused significant grief in the region.

Meanwhile, State Minister for Disaster Preparedness, Lillian Aber, said the government has stepped up relief operations. She emphasized that though they cannot stop disasters, they can take measures to reduce their impact and help communities recover more effectively.
