Date:

This report says that the Durban Magistrate’s Court has released Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, a daughter of former South African President Jacob Zuma, who appear in court today on terrorism charges.

She had been charged under the Protection of Constitutional Democracy against Terrorist and Related Activities Act and incitement to commit violence relating to the 2021 July unrest.

This brings to 69 the total number of people arrested, with one successful conviction thus far.

The riots, which affected KwaZulu-Natal and parts of Gauteng, claimed the 354 lives.

Looting and damage to businesses and critical infrastructure resulted in the loss of over 50 billion rand to the country’s economy.

Zuma-Sambudla, who is also a member of the South African parliament, is accused of inciting violence during riots in July 2021 that led to the deaths of over 350 people.

The violence broke-out following the arrest of Zuma for violating a constitutional court order after failing to appear before the State Capture Commission of Inquiry.
