President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey after a closed-door meeting with his Nigerian and host counter-part President Muhammadu Buhari announced at a joint press conference that multiple bilateral agreements, extending from energy to defence have been signed by both countries.
Erdogan who was received at the Presidential Palace Abuja, the Nigerian capital for a two days official visit noted that 2022 will mark the 60th year of relations with Nigeria within which its current bilateral trade stands at $2B.
The visiting Turkish leader also disclosed that part of the agreement signed includes strengthening of cooperation in military defence and the security issues with Nigeria, which is fighting terrorist organizations, armed gangs, and piracy as well as sharing necessary information on the Fethullah Movement, -FETO terror group illegal activities in Nigeria.
Erdogan while expressing happiness to visit Nigeria said Turkey is on the move of accelerating its relations with Africa on the basis of “strategic partnership noting that Turkey’s embassies in Africa have reached 43.
The Turkish leader who had earlier visited Angola and Togo as part of the 4-day diplomatic tour to Africa reminded that his country would be hosting a Turkey-Africa 3rd Economy and Business Summit on Thursday, and a Turkey-Africa 3rd Partnership Summit on Dec. 17 in Istanbul.
During the joint press briefing, the Nigerian leader President Muhammadu Buhari said they had very useful discussions on several bilateral issues, and reached a series of agreements that include taxation, mining, hydrocarbons, energy, and defence, as well as cooperation between youth and foreign ministries of both the countries.
Nigeria boasts Africa’s biggest economy, with a gross domestic product of some $500 billion, according to estimates.
