The Tigray People’s Liberation Front has hundreds of thousands of armed combatants despite the DDR provision of the Pretoria agreement.
Debretsion Gebremichal, leader of one of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front factions, has reportedly announced that his party is launching a peaceful struggle.
Debretsion is quoted to have said that the group decided to launch a new peaceful struggle, during a meeting organized in Mekelle on Wednesday. The meeting was with his faction’s senior leaders, according to sources.
The Debretsion faction’s new political struggle is described in Amharic as ‘Embi yemalet Zemecha,’ which could translate as “say no campaign.”
Debretsion Gebremicael highlighted in his speech that a consensus has been reached that the situation in Tigray calls for a special struggle and support.
